>>> All of our barrel heads are locally sourced in Kentucky and made of white oak. Each barrel head has gone through it’s own life and has developed its own unique character as well as coloring. They are made up of various numbers of wood slats as well as different company stamps and markings. We cannot guarantee a barrel with a specific marking, and the natural color and stain will differ per piece.
All barrel heads are tongue and groove style that are hand picked, un-assembled, lightly sanded to remove dirt and debris, re-assembled with glue, and have oak wood strips attached to the rear for a long-term hold long-term hold. We dry each barrel head out prior to assembly, but wood is constantly expanding and contracting due to it environment, so you may experience some minor shifting over time.
🔨WHAT MAKES HACKIN' GRAIN DIFFERENT?
1. We separate the barrel heads into individual pieces (Anywhere from 5-7 pieces).
2. We apply a generous amount of wood glue and interlock the tongue and groove pieces together
3. We apply weight and clamps to hold the barrel head together increasing its strength.
4. After the glue dries we LIGHTLY sand off any dirt or debris leaving all stamps, markings, barrel wax and chalk marks.
5. After sanding we then engrave into the oak wood NO PAINT OR DECALS ARE USED.
6. After your design has been engraved into the wood we apply backers to the rear of the barrel. This gives the barrel extreme strength and helps to keep separation of slats to a minimum.
7. Finally we use 40lb steel cable driven into the backer boards to make sure your barrel head will hang tight for years and year!

Barrel heads can warp over time due to environment. We try our best to prevent warping by using dry barrel heads and attaching sturdy oak strips to the back.
